ARENA dismisses ex-president Francisco Flores as Presidential Campaign Adviser due to possible corruption problems.
ARENA officials have confirmed former president Francisco Flores has been discharged as the General Campaign Adviser in the presidential race in El Salvador, due to problems related to the disappearance of $10 million donated to him by the government of Taiwan.
Francisco Flores had been hired by ARENA's prominent executives to lead the campaign strategy to regain power in El Salvador.
"Former President Flores has commitments outside the country, so we are hiring new advisers who will support the party," said the mayor of Antiguo Cuscatlan, Milagro Navas, this Wednesday December 11th, 2013.
Flores has been involved in serious accusations by the current president, Mauricio Funes and the Office of Attorney General, about $10 million donated by Taiwan whose whereabouts are still unknown.
The investigation is based on an intelligence report issued by the Department of Treasury of the United States, through its Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a special unit to prevent money laundry and suspicious financial practices.
Former president Francisco Flores was interviewed by national newspaper to respond for the accusations on December 2, 2013. Ever since then, he has not appeared in public. Many believe he has gone out of the country.
