Special Commission to call in for questioning former presidents Cristiani and Calderón Sol
Special Commission calls former presidents Cristiani and Calderón Sol to step forward in an effort to help clarify what happened to the $10 donation Taiwan gave to former president Flores.
The special committee of the National Assembly investigating the $10 million donation that Taiwan gave former president Francisco Flores, decided that the former presidents Armando Calderón Sol and Alfredo Cristiani also need to come forward in attempt to clarify what happened to the donation.
According to Benito Lara, acting chairman of the committee, the invitation to former presidents is sparked by the declarations Flores gave last week, when he said that the modality under which he received funds from Taiwan was a "common practice” engaged for decades by former presidents in El Salvador.
Although no date has been defined, members of the special committee also agreed to convene Miguel Angel Siman, president of FISDL (Social Investment Fund for Local Development).
he decision came after statements made by Juan José Daboub, former Minister of Finance, who said before the Commission, that Siman was responsible for managing earthquake programs across different municipalities.
Currently, Siman is the Government Program Director of presidential candidate Norman Quijano. It was also agreed to put on the list former mayor of Zacatecoluca, whom former president Flores said that at one point gave money to in the form of "bags of cash".
The special committee also concluded the need to convene José Luis Trigueros, former Minister of Finance and former Attorney Generals, Belisario Artiga and Romeo Barahona, who served under Flores term.
Congressman Guillermo Gallegos, from GANA, also proposed that President Mauricio Funes turn in the report submitted by the Government of Taiwan, as he indicated "it contains relevant data."
